04/29/2021 8:00 pm Europe/London 2021-04-29 9:30 pm MHP Speaker Series — Crossing the Rubicon

The Speaker series happens on the last Thursday of each month and, as a result of feedback that has come to us through the Parent Voice Survey, this month we are very pleased to have Daniel Jones (Class 4 teacher) speaking about ‘Crossing the Rubicon’. In Waldorf education and anthroposophic literature, the “Rubicon” refers to the developmental step which the child goes through around the age of 9 or 10. During this phase the child begins to separate itself and the world from one another through experience.

Join us to hear from Daniel as he draws on his own observations of his class as they begin to emerge from this period of change , as well as the study he performed with various texts and other teachers as he prepared himself and children for the transition. Also joining us for the talk will be Marianne Romeo (Class 3 teacher), whose pupils are currently entering into the beginning stages of this remarkable phase of childhood.

The term “Crossing the Rubicon” is drawn from Julius Caesar’s crossing the Rubicon river on 10 January, 49 BC[1] which precipitated the Roman Civil War, which ultimately led to Caesar’s becoming dictator and the rise of the imperial era of Rome.
