Friday Flyer - 10th October 2025

Dear Michael Hall Families,

My experience in education has taught me to expect certain cycles and patterns in how schools 'feel' at certain times. At this point in the academic year, I have been expecting (and witnessing) familiarity. It is an interesting word with both warm feelings, but the attached adage of breeding contempt.

I would suggest that un-nurtured familiarity can lead to less respectful, less caring and less growth. Somehow, we can lose sight of the individual as familiarity sets in. Nurturing growth, recognising individuality, and embracing emerging talents within a safe setting is where I see familiarity being a real strength.

In a world that often moves too quickly, we have classrooms and playgrounds that offer our children something deeply nourishing. In Michael Hall, familiarity is not simply about repetition or routine. It is a responsibility which, as teachers, we embrace the opportunities gifted to us in creating an environment in which our children feel safe, known, and connected to their teachers, their classmates, and the world around them; recognised as individuals and safe in our inclusive community.

Even the physical environment plays its part: the soft colours, the natural materials, and the rhythm of changing seasonal displays. These familiar spaces speak quietly to our sense of beauty and well-being, reminding us that the world is a good place.

Through all of this, familiarity becomes more than comfort, it becomes a foundation for growth, a freedom to change and the support to succeed. It allows our children to meet the unfamiliar with confidence and curiosity, knowing they stand on firm ground.

Warmly,
Stuart McWilliams
Principal

Blossom Fund

How the Blossom Fund Works

All donations will be held in a separate account, entirely distinct from the school’s main operating funds, monitored by Head of Finance, Trustees and the School’s auditors. These contributions will be released to top up the Fee Assistance programme once we exceed the 5% cap, helping ensure that no child is turned away purely due to finances. This can happen with your help.

Ways to Contribute

If you feel you can help support the Blossom Fund, there are several ways you can give:

  • One-off donations
  • Standing orders
  • Online contributions via our website
  • Legacy gifts
  • We are also exploring how charitable donations!

Donate Here

Every gift, large or small, will directly help open the doors of a Waldorf education to more children. To put some context, if we had 10 people donating £20 per month, that equates to 10% of a child's fees that we could support.

If you would like to find out more on how to donate, please email [email protected] or contact me directly.

Message from Jessika Hulbert

Dear Michael Hall Community,

I have recently taken on the Board’s Association Portfolio. It is our hope that the Association will enjoy a new lease of life and, with more members joining, gain fresh momentum to support the school and its wider community.

If you’re interested in becoming a member, please email [email protected] to request a membership form. The Trustees warmly encourage anyone connected to, or supportive of, Michael Hall to apply.

Once your membership is confirmed, we look forward to welcoming you to our first gathering on Saturday 8th November at 10.30am in the Library.

With warmest wishes,
Jessika Hulbert
