My Lady Spring is dressed in green,
She wears a primrose crown,
And little baby buds and twigs Are clinging to her gown;
The sun shines if she laughs at all, But if she weeps the raindrops fall.

Early Childhood May Festival Song
Dear Michael Hall Community,
This week, while standing at the gate each morning, I have heard many parents and carers ask “Where is the Spring? Where is the warmth?”. Today when I was walking up the path to the Early Childhood building a 3 year old asked “where are all the daffodils?” Her mother explained to her that they have come and gone, now back to sleep underground until next spring when we will see them again. The bluebells are now up, the wild garlic and even the rhododendrons in the valley field are starting to border the maypole in vibrant colours. Awestruck 2 year olds watch the older children learning their dances and preparing for their festival, the maypole stands proud in the field and is alight with spring cheer. The Middle and Upper School students walk arm and arm around past my window in cardigans that are contrasted by the bright green lawn behind them. Classes are off on adventures for big class trips and Upper School students are preparing for exams and while all this is happening the birds are busy flying past with nest material and sweet songs that create a soundtrack of our lives here at Michael Hall School.
Sometimes Spring graces us with abundant warmth and bright sun, but often it is subtle, weaving beauty and colour alongside the rains and winds that reminds us of the hope of things to come.
Wishing you a colourful weekend,
Rachel Ford-Blanchard
