6th December 2024
Dear Michael Hall Community,
Over a decade ago, a mentor of mine shared with me the deep internal journey of Advent and the light festivals that surround this season. She spoke of the light within all of us—something we learn to hold, cherish, and share throughout the Autumn. As the weeks of Advent unfold, this light and love grow inside us, ready to be brought into the world and shared widely.
In Early Childhood, the children have been busy spreading joy through cards, songs, and baked goods for those who play vital roles around the school. In return, we’ve been blessed by the gift of song and light from our Upper School students, as well as music shared by parents and a Class 9 student who played her violin for each group this week. In these moments of giving, it is often hard to tell who benefits more—the giver or the receiver. These acts of reciprocity nurture the soul and remind us of how deeply interconnected we are in supporting each other's wellbeing and sense of purpose.
As we close the first week of Advent as a school community, we hope you will find opportunities to share the light you are nurturing—both within your home and with the wider community. Many of us are looking forward to the fully booked Advent Festival of Music this evening, where we will sing together, listen to beautiful harmonies, and enjoy the warmth of traditional carols. These moments of giving and receiving are a powerful reminder of the light that unites us all.
Wishing you a beautiful weekend,
Rachel Ford Blanchard
