Ogwen Cottage Outward Bounds Trip
In the last summer holidays, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in an Outward Bounds trip, it is an organisation for outdoor education and as I love the outdoors it was amazing. So, I found myself on the long journey (nearly ten hours on that day!) to Ogwen Cottage in North Wales. The mountains and lakes which we drove through were absolutely stunning. I really loved the landscapes there and as a nature lover it was awesome to be out amongst such wild places.
It all started on our class eight trip. We went to a similar organization, Ridgeway Adventures, in the north of Scotland and I loved it so much! I remember climbing Arkle and really enjoying it. During the hike Miss Selter talked to me and asked whether I would be interested in going on a similar kind of trip. Of course, I was extremely excited by the idea and further communication with Mr. Jones finalised the plans. I am of course extremely grateful to him for all the work he put in that made the trip possible for me.
There were many things that I did but the most enjoyable was probably the rock climbing and gorge scrambling. Gorge scrambling is when we, all wet suited up, literally scramble up a gorge whilst a torrent of water gushes over us, often sweeping us off our feet, it was really fun. I also really loved the expedition although some of my group were rather opposed to walking! The biggest challenge was the rock climbing and although I had been scared of heights, I really loved it and now I would love to start climbing on a regular basis.
Overall, I really enjoyed the trip but if I were to do it again I would want to go for longer than a week, partly so I could just enjoy it for longer but also because I found that not many of the participants were actually interested in the outdoors or in any of the activities. This made it less fun for me, but I still absolutely loved it.
