4TG delve into Local History and Geography

Over the past four weeks, 4TG enjoyed a range of wonderful opportunities to explore local history and geography in this engaging main lesson block.

They were visited by their class teacher's mother, Rhyll Godber, who was a five-year-old child when her parents became the first family to run the Mansion hostel, which housed up to 60 students at any one time. Her memories include drinking fresh milk every break time at a dairy where the Library now stands, and planning and executing a secret midnight feast with boarders in the mansion's basement. We went on to tour the Mansion ourselves.

We also walked alongside the Kid stream into the heart of Ashdown Forest to discover its source, and took another walk into Forest Row having learned about the history of this little row of houses as it once was. We even found the remains of the platform of the train station that served Forest Row.

On another day, we walked past the Brambletye Manor ruins all the way to East Grinstead, learning about the history of Sackville College, the Guinea Pig Club and the Tudor houses on the High Street.
