Last week Class 4B performed their play, Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling, outside in the school grounds. It is the story of how a brave mongoose protects a kind family from deadly snakes. The class helped to write the script, contributed ideas and sorted out the music and effects between them. 

In July 1929 the late Queen Mother (the then Duchess of York) attended a pageant held on the Valley Field to raise funds for local hospitals and the Village Hall. Local authors Rudyard Kipling and AA Milne, known for the adventures of the honey-loving bear Winnie-The-Pooh, were also in attendance. The Pageant featured Milne’s son, a certain young man called Christopher Robin, who dressed up with his friends as characters from his father’s book.

As class 4B were learning about local history and also worked on Human and Animal main lessons, the play seemed a good fit for the class and a change from Norse Myths that are often performed by class 4s. They liked the idea that Rudyard Kipling had visited the Mansion, and they wanted to do a play involving animals; a few were especially keen on snakes.

The class thoroughly enjoyed doing the play and this showed in their two performances to the school and parents.
