Read for Good
Michael Hall School is delighted to be bringing back our annual Readathon at the end of this month (September) for a third year. As a school we support the charity ‘Read for Good’ in this activity.
The Readathon begins on 25th September and runs for two weeks.
We are looking forward to the return of our annual Readathon this month and to supporting Read for Good once again.
Supporting a charity is a key process in helping children develop a sense of community and respect for others in the wider world. The charity ‘Read for Good’ provides children in hospital with books and stories.
Books and stories are particularly important for children in hospital – they comfort, distract, reassure and entertain, while also supporting disrupted learning. Read for Good provides a regular supply of brand-new books along with storyteller visits to brighten up the days of children in all the UK’s main children’s hospitals.
Children unable to leave their beds can choose books from our specially designed mobile bookcase which wheels right up to their bedside. Because they are brand new, the books are safe for those at high risk of infection.
The money that is raised by our Readathon goes towards buying these books and to offering this service. Last year we raised £656 as a school, which brought our school total, since we started raising money, to a total of £1,176.60. As a school we are also rewarded for this by Scholastic books, in the form of credit at 20% of the total money raised, so that we can also purchase books for our school. So, not only do we raise money for books in children’s hospitals, but also for our school too.
Children in Classes 3 to 6 have been given a sponsor card for the Readathon, if your child is in another year group, and you would like them to take part this year, they can still join in and any digitally exchanged money can be paid in via: www.readforgood.org Please click on ‘Sponsor a pupil’ and then search for Michael Hall.
Yours Warmly
