Class 12 Play - Blue Stockings by Jessica Swale

The Class 12 Play this year is an empowering and surprising story of four young women fighting for their right to a university education in a world that assumed women belonged at home. It is 1896, Cambridge University. The Girton College girls study ferociously and match their male peers grade for grade. Yet, when the men graduate, the women leave with nothing but the stigma of being a 'blue stocking' - an unnatural, educated woman.

The play follows Tess and her fellow first years over one tumultuous academic year as they face hurdles they didn't anticipate: the distractions of love, the cruelty of the class divide, and the strength of the opposition, who will do anything to stop them in their fight for the right to graduate.
