Whole School Readathon
Catherine Fenton and Daniel Jones
We are very excited to be taking part in Read for Good’s Readathon! From 13th September for a month, all students will be given a sponsorship form, a bookmark and will be reading as many books as possible (or being read to if they are in the younger classes). They will ask for sponsorship for their reading to raise money to help Read for Good who:
‘encourage children to read through their unique motivational approach inspiring reluctant readers to give reading a go, and keen readers to read more widely. Pupils can choose whatever they want to read – from comics to classics and audio books to blogs – they are not being assessed, it’s all about reading for fun. And, they are motivated to read because the money they raise in sponsorship helps to provide provide a regular supply of brand new books and a resident storyteller to every major children’s hospital in the UK’.
To support your child’s Readathon journey you can look at the books they plan to read, and remind them they can read anything they want. They can read graphic novels, share with their friends and listen to audiobooks. Help them find lots of supportive sponsors and to fill in the sponsorship form.
And our school receives free books worth 20% of our grand sponsorship total – so we will also be working together towards bringing even more fresh and engaging books into our library and classrooms.
